Hair Type – Dry

Heat styling your hair too often can lead to damage, so you really need to use a protector whenever you use your hairdryer or straighteners. Moisturising shampoos and conditioners will help revive straw-like locks, and an intensive moisturising treatment once a week will really give it a boost.

Top Tip: Leave-in conditioners are a great idea, especially sprays as they won’t weigh your hair down. Also look out for overnight treatments, which will work on reviving your hair whilst you sleep.

Hair Type - Oily

Look for simple cleansing shampoos and try not to overload your hair with products. Don't use too much conditioner, and apply it only to the ends of your hair instead of the roots. A chic ‘up do’ can be a great distraction if you have limp hair and just don't want to wash it, but there are also loads of great dry shampoos to combat oily roots.

Top Tip: Don't know where to find dry shampoo? A little bit of talcum powder works a treat, just don't use too much or put it on when you are wearing black!

Hair Type - Normal

The Holy Grail of hair! If you are lucky enough to have normal hair, then just try and stick with a few simple tricks of the trade. Deep cleansing shampoos once a week will help remove product build up, and an intensive conditioner will help maintain those healthy locks. Protect your hair from heat styling, and when you have finished blow-drying your hair, blast it downwards with cold air to flatten the hair shaft and leave it looking healthy and shiny.

Top Tip: The humble hair band can in fact cause damage, so look out for special coated bands that won’t snag your hair. Try not to tie it too tightly either as this will also damage your hair.

Hair Type – Coloured

Hair colour now allows us to achieve that perfect shade, whether it is baby blonde or bright blue, but it can play havoc with your hair. To maintain that just coloured feel, look for colour prolonging shampoos and conditioners to get the maximum out of your colour. Colour can also dry your hair out too, so make sure that you keep your hair moisturised.

Top Tip: Colour specific shampoos are great; products for blonde hair will remove brassy undertones, whilst the brunettes can add shine to otherwise lacklustre locks.
